Open Invitation to Paint at The Art Center
Short on studio space? Bring some friends and use our space to paint! Bring your latest project and supplies. Beginners to advanced - just enjoy the company of other artists in a creative environment! Open Studio is available 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed on Sunday. Just call the Art Center to see if space is available.

Private Painting Class
Is your Sunday School class or “group of friends” looking for something to do as a group? How about a Private Painting Class. Each Participant will receive an 11”x14” canvas panel, acrylic paints, and one and a half hours of painting instruction. You may bring snacks for your guests, have a potluck snack., or order pizza. Cost $20 per person.

ART BIRTHDAY PARTIES
Have a birthday party with a different theme, ART. Birthday parties at the Art Center are generally scheduled for two hours and include art instruction plus all materials for one and a half hours. The host may then serve birthday cake, etc. Instead of the usual goodie bag, each guest goes home with an original 11”x14” acrylic painting as a souvenir of the party at the Center. ALL MEDIA-The Power of Color! with Phyllis Oliver Let a color be the subject of your painting. We are starting with a sketch, dividing light and dark, then focusing on the light source for how to group the color pigments. The colors will be seen against the greys. Paintings will be small and completed each week to build a portfolio. You can paint in the medium of your choice. Classes are on Thursdays from 9:30 to 12:30 p.m. Class dates: April 11- Power of Orange, April 18th-Power of Green, April 25th- Power of Purple. No class on April 4th. Cost: $25 per class. ZENTANGLE-Tangle Recipes with Terry Hall For returning students only. In this class students will gain an understanding of tangle types, ways to achieve balance of patterns, and methods of adding tangle enhancers and embellishments to their Zentangle tiles. Get ready to mix, match, and tangle as we learn to combine patterns in the Tangle Recipes Class. Please bring your supplies with you as well as a pair of scissors. Class will be held on Saturday, April 27 from 11 am to 1:30 pm. Cost is $35.00. Pre-Registration IS required for my class so please be sure to contact me to reserve your spot in this class. CRYLIC-PAINT! Acrylic painting made easy with Toni Lott Learn basic techniques of composition, brush techniques, mixing colors, finishing details and more. ALL MEDIA “Painting with Julie” with Julie Fleming This is a mixed media class for adult beginners and intermediate painters who work in, or are interested in oil, watercolor or acrylic. The class motto, "No Mistakes in Art", expresses the stress level of this class. Classes are on Mondays from 12 to 3 p.m. Class dates: No classes scheduled in April. Watch for dates. ALL MEDIA-Create Your Own Art Clas- with Rebecca Haigh. This is your chance to work on the pro-ject of your choice with individualized instruction as needed! Classes are for beginning and intermediate students. All types of styles and media are encouraged, along with your own pictures and supplies. Classes are on Mondays, from 9 to 12 p.m. Class dates: April 1, 8, 15, 22 & 29th. Cost: $20 per 3-hour class. DRAWING-Beginning Drawing I with Carol Bradshaw This is the first of 4 structured, mini-courses of 6 three-hour classes in graphite for the person who has never drawn before or for those who wish to brush up on the basics with drawing. Learning to recognize and draw basic shapes is the focus of this series of class, along with learning when and how to use the different pencil marks for textural effects. Sea shells or fruit are used as subjects. Classes are on Tuesdays from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Class dates: April 9, 16 & 23rd. No classes April 2 & 30th. DRAWING-Thursday Evening Beginning/Intermediate Drawing for Adults ith Jill Iversen Bring your own pad of newsprint or drawing paper ( 11x14) and I will supply the drawing implements. WATERCOLOR-Watercolor Textures -with Carol Bradshaw This 6 week mini-course will explore the use of different watercolor textures in your art work. A variety of additives will be experimented with including salt, alcohol, resists and more. Come a have some fun just playing around. WATERCOLOR-Fun with Watercolor Pen and Ink with Iva Cross Fendrick. Find your creative side with watercolor and ink and learn fun ways of combining pen and ink and watercolor. WATERCOLOR AND DRAWING-Trees and Rocks-Intermediate- with Carol Bradshaw This is a 6 week mini-course of three hour paired classes in seascapes. The first of the paired classes develops the layout drawing from your reference photo, establishing the center of interest and the light direction and the second completes painting in watercolor. The focus will be on the textures of trees, leaves and rocks. Bring your own photos! Classes are on Tuesdays from 9-12 p.m. Class Dates: April 9, 16 & 23rd. No classes on April 2 & 30th. ZENTANGLE-Introduction to Zentangle for ages 15 and up with Terry Hall. The Zentangle Method is an easy-to-learn, relaxing and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. It’s a form of a healing and meditative art, very therapeutic. It is like yoga for the mind. It helps increase your focus, creativity, relaxation, con-centration, self-esteem and so much more. No artistic talent is needed! Anyone can do it. To keep the “Zen” philosophy of the class we ask that you keep your small children and babies at home. Class is on Saturday from 11:30-2:00 pm. Class Dates: April 6th. Cost is $35, which includes your materials. Pre-registration is REQUIRED for my classes so please be sure to call me to reserve your spot in the class. Second Saturday Free Classes

8 a.m. Free Sketchbooking Plein Aire. Meet at the Clock Tower, at the Kern County Mu-seum, 3801 Chester Avenue. Bring your sketchbook or drawing pad.
1:00 p.m. Free Children’s Art Class (Grades 1 – 8) - Come make a sculpture using scrap wood. Parents are invited to stay and help their child with the sculpture process. Please have the children wear paint-friendly clothing.
2:30 p.m. Free Sketchbook Class - Adding Photographs to Your Sketchbook. If you have photographs you would like to add to your sketchbook bring them. Bring your sketchbook and plan to sketch with other like-minded artists.
