October 18:

Plein Air Oil with Lynelle Echeverria. Paint in plein air on location with one of Bakersfield’s most re-nowned landscape painters. Location: the beautiful foot-hills east of town—9 am to 3:30 pm. $45 members/$55 non-members.

October 25:

Framing Problems and Solutions with Toni Lott of Affordable Framing. $10 fee to Toni on the day of workshop (advice only), plus cost of any supplies you may need OR fees negotiable for any work done by Toni. Topics to be covered: best methods of inserting art into frames; fitting art using best methods, i.e., staples, clips, offset, etc..; applying dust cover and wire as needed. Drop in bet. 10 am and 2 pm—bring your own frames, mats and glass. Reservations appreciated. Call gallery at 872-2806.

November 15:

Children’s portraits in all mediums with Bonnie Kempner at the gallery. 9 am to 3:30 pm. $35 members/ $45 non-members.

December 12:

Urban Impressionism with William Wray (at BMOA). So. Cal artist William Wray, known for his beautiful depictions of decaying city scenes in oil, will have a one-man show opening at BMOA on Thursday, December 11th. We are fortunate to collaborate with the museum to hold this workshop the following day at their facility. All participants — $80.

Beginning drawing.
Carol Bradshaw is completing a 6 week beginning drawing class for new and experi-enced artists who want to renew their drawing skills (Thursdays, 9-12). You can also hone those drawing skills with an all day class on November 1st—Drawing Christmas packages, $40. Contact Carol for information at 760-376-6604 or bradshawartist@earthlink.net.

Nina Landgraff has her ongoing drawing classes for Beginning, Intermediate and Ad-vanced students—classes are $75 for 5 weeks. Contact her at 396-8123 or jana58@yandex.ru.

Try watercolor portraits?
Manuel Silvas continues to offer a Watercolor Portrait class Wednesdays 10-12. Classes are drop-in at $15 per class. Contact him at 398-0227 or by email at manuelsilvas@juno.com.

Basic Watercolor classes by Carol Bradshaw and Kathy Pope are being held on Tuesdays, 1-3. Drop-ins are welcome at $15 per class. A syllabus of class sub-jects is available so that you can select a class of special interest. Final class is Nov. 18th of a 10-week series. Show Guidelines:

All BAA members may participate in shows.
4 A-Frames, 1 card rack, 1 print rack, 1 small table.

Sign up in the gallery! Wear a Name Tag. Dress for
Success. Bring a ballpoint pen for invoices, and business
cards. 25% commission paid to the BAA on all sales.

October 3
First Friday Art Show Downtown. Set up 5:30 p.m., 19th & Eye Streets.

October 4
Art Show at the Symphony. PLAN NOW TO PARTICIPATE: The BAA will be having a “Music Inspira-tions” Art Show featuring musical instruments, musicians, sheet music, etc. on October 4th at the first symphony concert of the season at the Rabobank Convention Center. Artists are encouraged to create works of art with musically inspired themes to be featured at this event. Set-up at 12 noon. Re-turn at 6:15. Take-down 30 minutes after concert.

October 6 – November 10
Juried Competition and Exhibit—theme: VALLEY SCENES. Reception held Friday,

Oct. 10th from 4-7.
Wanted: corpo-rate sponsors and merchant awards.

November 8 (Please note: New date: not the 15th).
Art Show at the Symphony. Set-up at 12 noon. Return at 6:15. Take-down 30 minutes after concert.

December 12, 13, and 14.
Nutcracker. Set-up at 12 noon on the 12th; stay set up through Dec. 16th.
December 16. Symphony Holiday Pops. Take-down 30 minutes after concert.

COMING SPRING OF 2009 —THE NEXT BAA JURIED COMPETITION AND EXHIBIT AT THE BAA GALLERY OF ART. April 28th thru June 1st.
