Iva is a fourth generation resident of Kern County with her great grandparents settling in the Kern River Valley during the 19th Century. Iva’s mother, Vina Cross was a well known and respected Kern County artist, and one of the founding members of the Bakersfield Art Association. Iva is retired from the Kern High School District where she taught both special education and ceramics. Since retirement she has been very active in arts community, having taught classes at Cal State’s Ollie Program, made a presentation in their 60 Plus classes and has presented a variety of classes at the Bakersfield Art Association. For the past several years, she has been the guest artist instructor at the Rankin Guest Ranch in Walker Basin for their art week. Iva’s philosophy regarding art is that all people have some artistic ability, if just needs to be cultivated. Her philosophical makeup has been reinforced through her life time of teaching the arts to folks of all ages from early childhood to the late bloomer |
